New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown will have to dig deeper into his bench on Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets

Landry Shamet, who ran into a hard screen from Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. In a loss on Saturday, is out for Monday's game against the Nets at the Barclays Center with what's being called a sprain in his right shoulder.

Further tests on the shooting guard's shoulder will determine if surgery is necessary and how much time Shamet will miss. The 28-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder almost one year ago in his first season with the Knicks.

Shamet has been a spark plug off the bench for Brown, averaging 9.3 points per game on 42% shooting from beyond the arc in 20.9 minutes per game.

Will Shamet require surgery?

Shamet managed to recover from his dislocated shoulder last year without going under the knife.

The New York Post's Andrew Crane thinks the Knicks could opt to waive Shamet if he does require several months of healing time.

"However, the decision left Shamet’s shoulder susceptible to popping out again, which is what appeared to occur Saturday," Crane wrote Monday. "Shamet’s contract is not guaranteed until early January, so surgery would likely force the Knicks to waive him."

Regarding the bench, losing Shamet for the season would put the Knicks in a challenging position. Players like Jordan Clarkson, Tyler Kolek, and Mohamed Diawara could see an increase in minutes per contest.
