The New York Knicks understood entering the offseason that they had plenty to do over the next few weeks to months for them to be the team they're looking to be next year.
With a few important free agency decisions that had to be made, the Knicks made another one on Tuesday morning. According to Shams Charania, the Knicks have agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with Guerschon Yabusele, with a player option after the first season.
"Free agent center Guerschon Yabusele has agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the New York Knicks, plus a player option, sources tell ESPN. The Knicks negotiated the new deal with agents Olivier Mazet and Richie Felder for the big man on Tuesday," Shams wrote.
Yabusele had an impressive season with the Philadelphia 76ers a season ago, his first season back in the NBA since the 2018-19 campaign with the Boston Celtics.
In 70 games, and 43 as a starter, he averaged 11.0 points, .5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and shot 38.0% from 3-point range on 3.9 attempts per game.
With the 76ers as injured as they were, he played an important role in them getting by throughout the year.

It remains uncertain what other teams had interest in him, but adding the 29-year-old is an impressive step for the Knicks. With limited financial resources, assets, and other avenues for improvement, this is a crucial addition for New York.
