Are Knicks serious about Anthony Davis? Insider shares update on Mavs star image

TL;DR

  • New York Knicks are interested in acquiring Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis.
  • Anthony Davis has been sidelined with a calf injury, appearing in only five games.
  • Dallas Mavericks have a poor record and have dismissed GM Nico Harrison.
  • Knicks would consider Davis if offered at a below-market cost, despite injury concerns.

The New York Knicks are off to a good start (10-6), but they may still need some players to become title favorites. One of them could be Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis, who has only appeared in five games this season as he remains out with a calf injury.

Conversely, the Mavs hold a 5-14 record and have dismissed general manager Nico Harrison, the individual responsible for Acquiring Davis from the LA Lakers by trading away beloved player Luka Doncic. Given Kyrie Irving's absence due to an Achilles injury and Davis' persistent health issues, the Mavericks' key players are already becoming subjects of trade speculation.

The Knicks have surfaced as a possible contender for Davis, who remains the NBA's premier two-way talent when fit.

NBA insider provides an update on the Knicks' pursuit of Anthony Davis

According to SNY's Ian Begley, the Knicks would surely "at least check in with [the Dallas Mavericks] if/when Anthony Davis becomes available" as they continue to assemble wins that can win it all this season.

"If Dallas is offering Davis at a below-market cost, I'm sure the Knicks will at least give the move some thought," Begley said. "But this, again, is stating the obvious. The Mavs will get calls from nearly all NBA teams if/when they make Davis available."

Since his move to Dallas, Davis has participated in just 14 of 46 contests. His ongoing injury is a significant worry for any club considering a trade for him.

The Knicks should proceed carefully, as acquiring Davis could necessitate trading away numerous role players. Nevertheless, if they manage to keep Davis fit for most of the season, alongside Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, they'd genuinely be considered strong contenders for the championship.
