The Minnesota Timberwolves received tough news regarding their franchise player ahead of Sunday night’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings.

Anthony Edwards won’t play for Minnesota tonight due to right foot soreness. It will be Minnesota’s second straight game without Edwards, who didn’t play in the team’s 127-120 win against the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

The Timberwolves will also be without veteran point guard Mike Conley due to an Achillies injury.

Edwards leads the Timberwolves in scoring this season, averaging 28.7 points per game, while shooting 50% from the field and 41.6% from 3-point range. He’s also posting 4.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and a team-high 1.2 steals per night.

Edwards has helped spark a high-powered Minnesota offense this season, which is sixth in the NBA in points per game, averaging 119.9.

Minnesota will likely turn to guards Donte DiVincenzo and Terrence Shannon Jr. In Edwards’ absence. DiVincenzo is coming off a strong performance on Friday, where he scored 21 points and shot 7/15 from the field in the win over the Warriors.

DiVincenzo is having one of the best seasons of his eight-year career, averaging 13.5 points, four rebounds and 3.7 assists per night. He’s shooting 41.7% from the field and 38.2% from long range.

Minnesota has won six of its past seven games, with its only loss being a 108-105 defeat to the Phoenix Suns last Monday. The Timberwolves (16-9) sit in sixth place in the Western Conference, 1.5 games behind the Los Angeles Lakers. Edwards will look to return for Wednesday’s matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.
