It's all starting to get quite real.

A Giannis Antetokounmpo trade away from the Milwaukee Bucks is officially on the cards.

ESPN's Shams Charania shared the latest development with a breaking news post on X on Wednesday afternoon.

Charania wrote, "Just in: Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent Alex Saratsis have started conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the two-time NBA MVP's future – and discussing whether his best fit is staying or elsewhere, sources tell ESPN. A resolution is expected in the coming weeks."

Antetokounmpo has stayed heavily committed to the Bucks in recent years, even as successes haven't come close to matching the glorious 2021 NBA championship in which Giannis dropped 50 points to win Game 6.

In the last three seasons, the Bucks lost in the first round of the playoffs. The Damian Lillard trade, while exciting, didn't elevate Milwaukee deeper into the postseason.

Last season, the Bucks traded away Khris Middleton, and in the summer, Brook Lopez left. The last key pieces of that championship were gone.

Milwaukee brought aboard Myles Turner, and a few younger players have stepped up this season, but the Bucks have won only one of their last nine games. They're reeling, and Giannis has played out of his mind and worked hard to overcome injury, all to no avail.

All the rumors will begin at a particularly fast pace now. Teams like the Knicks and the Lakers will be popular suggestions just by virtue of being the Knicks and the Lakers.

Everyone with assets will look into Giannis. And Antetokounmpo will surely have some of his own say in where he ends up, if that's the path this ends up taking.

Antetokounmpo has been the most important player in the last half-century of Bucks basketball. His tenure in Milwaukee may now have an end date attached.
