The Milwaukee Bucks don’t look like they are going to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo. With a significant portion of those Bucks rumors dying down, it is time to look ahead to Bucks free agency. The Bucks are pursuing more win-now players to pair with Giannis to give him the best possible chance at competing for an NBA championship.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus listed some of his 2025 NBA free agency predictions, and he has the Bucks landing a former All-Star.
Pincus predicted that the Bucks may be able to get D’Angelo Russell with their taxpayer mid-level exception.
“Russell is a talented scorer and capable shooter, but he has remained a journeyman throughout his career…he's probably facing a pay cut, and if he can't get a team to give him the full NTMLE, he may have to settle for the TMLE with a team in need of a lead guard who can shoot the three.”
Russell would be an interesting fit in Milwaukee. The team could certainly use his playmaking and scoring. However, they already have a point guard with defensive issues and can’t really afford to have another guard who can’t defend either guard position well.
We need to see if this Bucks free agency rumor comes true. The Bucks may have their eyes on better fits at the onset of free agency, but Russell could be a player they fall back on if their other plans don’t work.

Although not the perfect fit defensively, Russell could provide Giannis some relief on the offensive end. Time will tell how badly the Bucks want that relief.
