Second fan vote hurts Norman Powell’s all-star chances image

The Miami Heat has had an interesting season so far. From Herro missing a majority of the season due to off-season foot surgery, to Kel’el Ware’s flashes of potential, the Heat has been fighting for every game to boost their record of 20-17 in the Eastern Conference. One player in particular is hoping to become an all-star for the first time in his career, but the likelihood of that happening this season seems low.

Norman Powell has put the league on notice. He’s definitely deserving of all-star recognition, especially coming to a team where he leads in scoring, with 24.4 points per game. After getting snubbed last year, he’s made all the right moves to improve this season. The Heat would be in a much dangerous position if they hadn’t acquired a talented offensive scorer in the off-season.

Second fan vote returns

However, none of that might matter if Powell doesn’t gain enough votes to gain his all-star title. With the release of the second fan voting, Powell currently ranks 18th with 199,753 votes. What’s even crazier is he’s ranked a spot behind Joel Embiid with 206,461 votes, and he’s only played 17 games so far this season.

Although it is a popularity contest, it’s somewhat disappointing to see a player like Norman Powell potentially getting snubbed once again, despite leading the Heat with a winning record. Even though there’s still time left, Powell might get an exception from the coaches and staff around the league to earn a spot as an all-star. Until then, he looks to continue his career year, propelling the Heat to greater heights.
