On January 5th, news spread throughout the league when the Atlanta Hawks and Trae Young announced that the team would be looking for a way to trade him. This gathered the attention of multiple franchises from both conferences, listing them as possible trading destinations for the all-star.
It appears that the Hawks plan to build around rising star Jalen Johnson, who’s having a spectacular breakout season. Without Young on the court, the Hawks are 13-10. However, they’re 2-8 when he plays, showing there needs to be a change.
The Miami Heat is a possible landing target
One of the possible favorites to trade for and land Trae Young is the Miami Heat. The Heat currently ranks 7th in the East with a record of 20-16. There has been recent speculation about the availability of Tyler Herro and his future with the organization after this season, with his contract ending.
Herro only played six games, mainly due to injury management and his most recent toe contusion. Although he’s set to return at some point this or next week, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration if he were involved in trading talks.

If that were the case, a deal concerning Trae Young and Tyler Herro would be an interesting acquisition for both sides. The Atlanta Hawks would receive an efficient shot creator who shows flashes of his playmaking abilities. The Miami Heat would receive a superb passer with the ability to shoot from long range, while drawing the ability to draw fouls.
Both players would be able to help each team, respectively, but it all depends on whether it’s worth the risk to accept someone whose availability has been in question.
