Lakers urged to avoid trade for Heat All-Star after recent report image

Reports have started to indicate that the Miami Heat will get some level of interest from teams around the league for Andrew Wiggins.

The Heat are currently 11-6, and after Erik Spoelstra stated that he believes the Eastern Conference is wide open, it might be a bit surprising to see them move on from a player of Wiggins' caliber.

Wiggins might not be what he once was, but he’s still playing 33.1 minutes per night, which would almost be the most he's played since the 2020-21 season, and has been relatively good in a Heat uniform these past few weeks.

He’s currently averaging 16.7 points and shooting 36.5% from 3-point range.

One team that's reportedly interested in Wiggins is the Los Angeles Lakers, but some don't believe that the Lakers should move on from certain players in a deal, even if the Heat would be willing to trade him.

That includes Erik Beaston of Bleacher Report, who stated that trading some of their role players for Wiggins wouldn't be a good idea.

“Finding ways to maximize what the future Hall of Famer and potential greatest of all time brings to the table at this point in his career, while being mindful of load management and not letting games get away from them in the process is of the utmost importance.

“The last thing they can afford is to trade some of the expiring contracts on the roster (Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Jaxson Hayes) for Wiggins and risk disrupting chemistry or momentum,” Beaston wrote.

Given that Wiggins has dealt with injuries throughout his career, it might not be the worst plan for the Heat to move on from him.

However, if Miami is in a position to contend, or at least compete in the Eastern Conference, it’d feel a bit strange to trade a player of his caliber.
