The Miami Heat just suffered one of their worst losses of the young season, and the team’s star players are taking accountability for what lies ahead.
Facing a shorthanded Cleveland Cavaliers team on Wednesday, the Heat were embarrassed on their home floor by a score of 130-116. The Cavaliers were without Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, and Donovan Mitchell in the game.
Obviously, the Heat are dealing with injuries of their own, seeing as they haven’t had Tyler Herro or Bam Adebayo for weeks. Nonetheless, the Heat feel as though this was a game they should’ve won, and guard Norman Powell — who finished with 27 points in the loss — echoed that sentiment postgame.
“We gotta be better, it doesn’t matter who’s suiting up, we gotta focus on what we need to focus on and play our brand of basketball no matter who we’re lined up against,” Powell said.
After back-to-back matchups with Cleveland, the Heat will once again be faced with two consecutive games against the same opponent when they take on the New York Knicks on both Friday, and Monday. Going up against another contender gives the Heat another chance to pass the litmus test as they look to rebound after a disappointing 2024-25 season.
