Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic enjoyed perhaps the best game of his NBA career on Saturday, and he’s crediting the offensive system put in place by the coaching staff.
In the Heat’s 136-131 win over the Portland Trailblazers, Jovic was spectacular, coming off the bench to score 29 points, grab nine rebounds, and dish out seven assists to help the Heat improve to 6-4 on the season.
It was Jovic’ second 20-point game of the season, and after four games in a row in single-digits, Jovic has gotten back into double figures in back-to-back games. With the Heat dealing with numerous injuries to their star players such as Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo, Jovic stepping up is very key for the team.
After the game, Jovic talked about the benefit of playing in the Heat’s offensive system, and how it has helped his growth as a player.
“It’s an easy way to play basketball,” Jovic said. “It suits us really [well] because we don’t have the guy who needs the ball a lot with a really high usage. That’s what helps us.”
Jovic is looking to take another leap this season as the Heat try to reach the postseason despite trading away former star Jimmy Butler last season. He’ll have a chance to continue his strong play of late on Monday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
