The Miami Heat have exceeded expectations so far this season, and it could affect how they decide to navigate the trade deadline.

Last season, the Heat opted to be sellers at the deadline, trading away Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. The Heat would go on to finish the season under.500, and get dominated in the first round of the playoffs, being swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers

However, this season has shown a different story, the Heat are 14-10, and have gotten off to a stronger start than most had anticipated thanks to an overhauled offensive scheme. With a strong core of Tyler Herro, Norman Powell, and Bam Adebayo, the Heat are equipped to make some noise in the Eastern Conference. As such, Brett Siegel of Clutch Points believes the Heat will be buyers at this year’s deadline rather than sellers.

“The Heat have gone from a team many expected to be sellers at the deadline to one that will be looking to buy,” Siegel said. “Andrew Wiggins was a candidate for the Bucks & Lakers in the offseason. The Lakers still have interest in Wiggins, the Heat have yet to signal he is available on the market.”

The Heat will continue to monitor their best options this season as they look for a bounce back campaign after a disappointing season last year.
