After completing several important offseason transactions, the Miami Heat have reportedly handed their incoming fourth-year forward and former No. 27 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft Nikola Jović a sizable new deal.
"Miami Heat forward Nikola Jović has agreed to a four-year, $62.4 million rookie contract extension with the franchise, Jeff Schwartz, Sean Kennedy and Jared Mucha of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN," ESPN's Shams Charania shared via Twitter/X on Wednesday night.
"Jović averaged a career-high 10.7 points last season as his Heat role elevates."
The 22-year-old power forward landed himself a nice rookie-scale extension with the Heat following a successful third NBA season and wildly efficient run for Serbia in EuroBasket this past summer.
Jović contributed 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Heat through 46 appearances in the 2024-25 regular season on a 56.0% effective field goal percentage, but his 12.8 points on a blistering 52.4% three-point percentage in six games for Serbia might have factored heavily into the Heat's decision.
The 6-foot-10 sharpshooter could prove to be an extremely valuable option for Miami this season if he were to take another statistical leap, and it appears as though the franchise believes in him to do just that, especially after it was revealed that the team's 2025 All-Star Tyler Herro could be missing for up to 12 weeks due to injury.

With Herro out for an extended period of time, the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign could be Jović's chance to become one of the NBA's most notable break-out fourth-year players.
