The Miami Heat avoided a disastrous outcome with Nikola Jovic’s injury on Monday. Per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, Jovic suffered an elbow contusion/laceration, and is day-to-day.
Jovic suffered the injury early in the Heat’s 106-96 loss to the Toronto Raptors. Immediately upon checking into the game, Jovic took a hard fall underneath the basket after attempting a dunk. After staying down for a few minutes, Jovic was helped off the court with air cast on his right arm.
It’s been a tough season for Jovic, who is averaging just 7.2 points per game and is shooting under 40 percent from the floor, and under 30 percent from beyond the arc.
Jovic — who has been out of the rotation — was being given a chance to play due to various injuries on the Heat’s roster, only to fall victim to an injury himself.
Luckily for Miami, the injury wasn’t more serious, and Jovic shouldn’t miss significant time. Miami has been struggling recently, currently in the midst of a five-game losing skid. At 14-12, the Heat will be looking to turn things around heading into the calendar year as they try to bounce back from last season’s disappointing result.
