Heat could re-enter trade talks involving Grizzlies' Ja Morant image

Senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Friday that the Memphis Grizzlies "are entertaining offers to potentially move two-time All-Star Ja Morant."

This news is huge, as both sides between the Grizzlies and Morant have shown hints that things are just not working out between the two. The 26-year-old has played 50 or fewer games in each of the previous two seasons while going through injury problems and suspensions.

So far in 2025-26, Morant has already missed over half of Memphis' games.

The Grizzlies appear fed up with the superstar point guard, which could result in Morant being moved before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Reports earlier in the season have suggested that multiple teams have been interested in Morant, so expect them to stay involved.

The Heat are among the teams that have been interested in a Ja Morant trade

According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, the Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, and Minnesota Timberwolves are the three teams that have expressed interest in Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant.

The Los Angeles Clippers are another team that "would possibly consider" trading for Morant, Siegel also mentioned.

These reports are coming just days after the Atlanta Hawks traded Trae Young and the $46.39 million he has owed this season with a player option for 2026-27. The motive behind this stemmed from the expiring contract of Young.

This could be something very similar to what the Grizzlies want to do. However, Morant has this season and an additional two years remaining on the five-year, $197.23 million deal that's linked with him, which also doesn't include a player option.

Whichever team that would be willing to trade for the 26-year-old will have to be up to commit to him long-term. This could result in teams not willing to give up the trade assets and young talent that the Grizzlies are going to want.

In 18 games this season, Morant is averaging 19.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 7.6 assists while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 20.8 percent from three.
