Virtually anytime a premier player becomes available on the trade market, the Miami Heat are brought up in some capacity.
That rings true once again now that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has seemingly become available for trade. Given their market size, and history of winning with premier players, the Heat are always mentioned as a potential destination for stars.
However, some NBA pundits believe the Heat are lacking the necessary assets to acquire star talent via a trade. Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas recently shared his thoughts on the Heat’s ability to trade on his latest episode of Gil’s Arena. In the episode, Arenas seemingly dissed the Heat, comparing their assets to trade to that of scrap heap.
“Nobody wants to trade with Miami. Nobody wants those things down there. You got nothing. You gonna trade me some sand? Wet Willy coupons? Because nobody wants the players,” Arenas said.
In particular, Arenas pointed out the lack of players who either stayed in form, or got better after leaving the Heat. In recent years, Miami has seen players such as Gabe Vincent, Kendrick Nunn, and Max Strus see dips in production upon leaving Miami.
Nonetheless, the Heat have put themselves in a good position to contend in the East even without making a trade, as they are currently 14-8 — good for fourth in the East — and have all the makings of being an improved team from last season.
