The Miami Heat went up against the New Orleans Pelicans last night on January 4th. They came into the game after losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves, 125-115, on the previous night, which was the first half of a back-to-back. Looking to win the last home game before going on a four-game road trip, they had a favorable matchup against the worst team in the West.
Despite being a somewhat close game in the first half, the Heat pulled away in the second in dominant fashion, outscoring the Pelicans 55-44. The Heat would win 125-106, improving their record to 20-16, ranking them 7th in the East. Norman Powell had a masterclass shooting performance, scoring 34 points while shooting 11-15 from the field and 9-12 from the three-point line. There’s one player in particular who’s one step closer to making a franchise milestone.
Bam Adebayo's second all-time
Bam Adebayo contributed in all aspects of the game last night, scoring 12 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, making six assists, recording a steal, and a block. Despite going 5-14 from the field, he’s reached Glen Rice’s record for second-most field goals made in Miami Heat history. Tying Rice with 3,604 field goals, Bam now has a chance to claim the second spot as his own when the Heat settle their rematch with the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 6th.

Once he inevitably takes second place, he’ll have to work even harder to reach Dwayne Wade’s first-place title of 7,842. Until then, it’s another accolade Bam adds to his list of achievements he’s made during his tenure with the franchise as he establishes himself as one of the Heat’s all-time greats.
