The Memphis Grizzlies (4-8) will aim to avoid their third consecutive loss in a Wednesday might matchup against 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics (5-7).
Memphis' 2025-26 campaign has been mired in controversy from the outset, as their 2-time All-Star point guard Ja Morant's evident displeasure with the franchise has already resulted in a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team and, in turn, set the NBA trade rumor mill ablaze.
As for their upcoming bout against the Celtics, a recent update from the Grizzlies has left Morant's status for the contest up for interpretation as he continues to deal with an ankle injury.
According to Grizzlies PR on X/Twitter, the 2022 Most Improved Player award winner has been deemed questionable due to right ankle soreness.
With Memphis looking to bounce back and collect a desperately needed victory against a lacking Eastern Conference opponent, Morant's absence would surely dock their chances of taking a decisive win.
Though he has struggled immensely to begin his seventh NBA season, the Grizzlies still rely heavily upon the flashy guard's play-making and ability to pressure the rim. If he were to be sidelined against Brown and 2-time All-Defensive Team selection Derrick White, the team would be without their key offensive initiator.
In 11 appearances with the team this season, Morant has averaged 18.9 points, 8.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds on a horrid 46.9% true shooting percentage.
