When the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Luka Doncic at the February 6th trade deadline last season, the franchise knew they had acquired a generational talent capable of carrying them to greater postseason success than they ever imagined.

What L.A. Didn’t realize until a few months later is just how dominant Doncic could be during the regular season.

After Sunday night’s 108-106 win over the Utah Jazz, Doncic became the first player in NBA history to record 400+ points and 100+ assists through 12 games. Yes, you read that right — a stat not even LeBron James has accomplished in his 23-year career. Doncic reached it at just 26 years old.

Doncic hasn’t just been playing like an All-Star-caliber guard, but a top-tier candidate for this season’s MVP award. He’s averaging 34.5 points, 8.9 assists and 8.8 rebounds on 46.7% shooting from the field. He flirted with a triple-double in the win over Utah, finishing with 33 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists across 40 minutes.

Whether it’s stealing the show with flashy passes or trick plays — including a between-the-legs move on Kevin Love — Doncic continues to prove this isn’t a revenge tour.

It’s a statement to the Lakers fanbase, one that has embraced him with open arms and immense gratitude.

Despite leading the league in scoring, he remains the only player currently ranked in the top five in both assists and steals per game. Doncic is also one of only three players this season to appear in at least two of the league’s five major statistical categories, joining Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama.

It’s clear the Lakers have elevated their play with Doncic on the floor. They’re 9-2 in the last 11 games he’s suited up for, climbing to the second seed in the Western Conference. With the small but promising sample size of the Doncic–Austin Reaves–LeBron James trio, it’s clear this group is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
