Lakers suggested to avoid Russell Westbrook-like trade for Warriors champion image

Having a star like Luka Doncic for the Los Angeles Lakers obviously changes a lot for the organization moving forward.

Had the Lakers known they were going to make a move for Doncic a year ago, things would likely be different right now in terms of their roster.

However, it's also important to give the Lakers some credit for the team they've built, as they’re currently 12-4 and in second place in the Western Conference.

Reports have started to surface that the Lakers could be interested in Miami Heat wing Andrew Wiggins, who would be a nice piece to a team looking to win a championship.

Wiggins is a tough player to evaluate at this stage of his career, as he was likely a bit better during his days with the Golden State Warriors when the team won a championship, and he was a defensive-minded wing.

For those reasons and some others, Bleacher Report's Erik Beaston doesn't believe it’d be in the Lakers' best interest to go out and make a trade for him despite the rumors.

“Finding ways to maximize what the future Hall of Famer and potential greatest of all time brings to the table at this point in his career, while being mindful of load management and not letting games get away from them in the process is of the utmost importance.

“The last thing they can afford is to trade some of the expiring contracts on the roster (Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Jaxson Hayes) for Wiggins and risk disrupting chemistry or momentum,” he wrote.

Beaston's comments make sense, especially after the Lakers made a blockbuster deal for Russell Westbrook and traded most of their depth just for it not to work out.

There's always a possibility of that happening, so Rob Pelinka will have to be very smart in the moves he wants to make and also remind himself that he can wait a bit longer to go all in because of how young Doncic is.
