The Los Angeles Lakers made a notable roster move Monday night, opening a spot by waiving forward Christian Koloko.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Lakers cleared the vacancy in order to sign former Gonzaga star Drew Timme to a two-way contract.
Timme had been playing with the South Bay Lakers, L.A.’s G League affiliate, but because he was not on a two-way deal, he was ineligible to suit up for the main roster. That barrier is now gone, and the Lakers moved quickly after Timme’s recent performances.
Earlier in November, Timme was named G League Player of the Month after averaging 30 points, seven rebounds and 4.7 assists between Nov. 7–16. His production has remained consistent across the full sample: in six games this season, he is averaging 25.5 points, eight rebounds and four assists while showcasing the scoring touch and passing instincts that defined his collegiate career.
The 25-year-old big man has played for four different G League teams since entering the professional ranks, including affiliates of the Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn is also where Timme earned his lone NBA experience to date, appearing on a 10-day contract last season. He averaged 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists across nine games but ultimately did not secure a guaranteed deal for the 2024–25 season.
With the Lakers, Timme will now have the opportunity to play in up to 50 NBA games this year under the terms of his two-way contract. His first chance to join the active roster comes Tuesday night, when the Lakers face the Los Angeles Clippers.
