Lakers reportedly make JJ Redick contract decision after rollercoaster rookie season image

The Los Angeles Lakers have seen enough from head coach JJ Redick.

According to The Athletic’s Dan Woike, the 17-time champions recently made a bold contract decision following Redick’s rollercoaster rookie season.

“Rob Pelinka says JJ Redick has received a contract extension,” Woike reported last Thursday.

After firing Darvin Ham, Los Angeles was forced to look for a respectable replacement before the 2024-25 season commenced.

Despite possessing zero coaching experience, Redick landed the job last summer, making him the 29th head coach in Lakers history.

Impressively, the Lakers secured 50 regular-season wins after a relatively slow start to the year and earned the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference under Redick’s leadership.

However, questionable postseason rotations (or lack thereof) doomed Redick and the Lakers when it mattered most.

Los Angeles, which played small ball for most of their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, was disappointingly eliminated in five contests as the clear favorite.

Considering the Lakers should be set in the frontcourt this year (they signed Deandre Ayton in free agency) and will have a chance to pair LeBron James with Luka Doncic for a full season, it makes sense why the franchise feels they are headed in the right direction with Redick steering the ship.

Hopefully, for Redick’s sake, the former sharpshooter proves Los Angeles right in due time.
