The Los Angeles Lakers’ roster may experience significant changes once the 2025-26 season concludes.
While the offseason is still months away, it’s never too early to start identifying assets who could be on the way out the door.
Hoops Habit’s Cal Durrett is under the impression that Los Angeles’ father-son duo is primed to soon depart the franchise.
“(JJ) Redick is both a transparent and opinionated coach, and everything he has done in recent weeks suggests that Bronny (James) doesn't have a future in L.A.,” Cal Durrett wrote Wednesday.
“Worse yet, with the Lakers struggling, Redick may opt to shorten his rotations, not expand them.”
“That means fewer opportunities for Bronny to prove himself. And even if he had those opportunities, it seems like a long shot that he would make an impact if he failed to do so in the G League.”
“More likely, with Bronny in Redick's doghouse, he and LeBron (James) will play out the season with the Lakers. As a result, both will likely be playing elsewhere next year in sort of a package deal.”
In Bronny’s case, there isn’t much hope that the USC product could eventually crack Redick’s rotation and show he deserves to assume a larger chunk of the organization’s offensive responsibilities.
Bronny has bounced back and forth between the NBA and the G League with the Lakers this season, proving he’s not headed in a positive direction.
If the 21-year-old guard wants to make something of himself in the big leagues, he may have to find another NBA and commit to doing his part to ensure he succeeds.
Regarding LeBron’s situation in Los Angeles, his stint with the franchise appears to have run its course. A fresh start would do wonders for the four-time NBA champion, as remaining with the Lakers beyond the 2025-26 season would likely result in him ending his incredible career on a sour note.
Alternatively, retirement could be on the table for one of the best NBA players of all time. When it’s all said and done, witnessing a LeBron and Bronny-less 2026-27 Lakers squad isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
