The Los Angeles Lakers were a busy franchise on Monday, acquiring a new 6-foot-9 big man to not only assist Luka Doncic, but Deandre Ayton as well.

However, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Lakers’ Monday night signee faces an unfortunate restriction going forward.

“The Lakers will be allowed to put Timme on the active roster for 40 games,” Marks stated on X/Twitter.

While Timme is likely grateful to receive a promotion this early in the season (he’s been competing with the organization’s G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers), it would be understandable for him to be frustrated with the appearance limitation that comes with signing a two-way contract.

Still, Timme, who’s only appeared in nine NBA contests thus far (Brooklyn Nets), will still get a legitimate opportunity to impress JJ Redick and the Lakers this season.

Timme isn’t the fastest or most explosive low-post player in existence.

However, the Gonzaga product has managed to dominate at the collegiate (17.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in 134 games) and G-League levels (25.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game with South Bay this season) thanks to his impressive pivoting skills and patience against taller, more athletic big men.

While it’s well-documented that the NBA is a different animal and always will be, Timme’s unique skill set makes it impossible to rule out the possibility of the 25-year-old succeeding alongside Luka Doncic and Ayton.
