The Los Angeles Lakers have proven they aren't afraid to orchestrate a groundbreaking trade if the perfect opportunity presents itself.
Last season, Los Angeles was all-in on acquiring former Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic before the trade deadline, and ultimately did so by moving on from Anthony Davis after 5.5 seasons.
While it’s unlikely the Lakers will complete a deal of that magnitude this season, the organization is eying a blockbuster trade for an ex-Golden State Warriors fan-favorite and NBA champion.
“We’ve heard for some time now that the Lakers know they need some improvements on the wing,” The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported last Thursday. “Andrew Wiggins has been a name that they are monitoring if Miami (Heat) were to make him available.”
Wiggins was linked to the Lakers last year, but the Kansas product landed with the Heat in a trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Dubs.
If Wiggins appears on the trade market for the second consecutive season, the Lakers might work their magic to pry the 30-year-old from the Heat.
Luka Doncic is at his best when he’s playing alongside athletic bigs and respectable perimeter shooters, as the 26-year-old frequently attracts multiple defenders while going to work on the offensive end.
Considering Wiggins has only shot below 36% from three once since the start of the 2020-21 season, it’s safe to say the 2014 No. 1 overall pick fits the bill, making him an intriguing trade target for the Lakers.
Wiggins is averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game with the Heat this season, shooting 48.1% from the field and 36.5% from downtown.
Wiggins is certainly a player Los Angeles will keep an eye on as the 2025-26 season progresses.
