Lakers, Mavericks could work together again on mutually beneficial blockbuster trade image

Remember how shocked you were when the Dallas Mavericks traded away Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers?

Well, of course you do, it was only one of the biggest trades in NBA history.

Now it could happen all over again with this hypothetical from Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, which would shock fans all over again.

The full trade would have the Mavericks receiving Austin Reaves and a 2031 first-round pick, with the Lakers getting Dereck Lively II and Caleb Martin.

“Lakers fans probably won't like this suggestion. Maybe their decision-makers wouldn't, either. That's fine,” Buckley said Wednesday. “The Lakers could cross their fingers and give (Reaves) that kind of coin, but they could also flip him and a future first for Lively, who has established chemistry with Luka Dončić and cornerstone potential on defense.”

If this trade were to happen, Dončić would be able to grow with Lively, whom he has already played with, but with LeBron James by his side for support.

Ever since the original blockbuster deal, the Lakers have been searching for their long-term center, and Lively may be their best option.

It also helps that Dallas now has an overload of big men on their roster, which could make it easier to move on from the 21-year-old.

We’ve also seen Reaves fit into the combo guard mold, where he can play with or without the ball, which is exactly what he could do alongside Kyrie Irving when he is fully healthy.

It may be crazy to believe that these two teams could partner up again, but it's hard to deny that this wouldn’t be a beneficial move for both teams.
