The Los Angeles Lakers are still adding talent to their roster. Just the other day they picked up Marcus Smart to improve their point of attack defense. Now they are looking to fill the last few spots on the roster with more defensive help for Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

One new rumor is that a new Lakers trade target has emerged. NBA insider Rob Murrows reported, “The Los Angeles Lakers are showing interest in Matisse Thybulle, league sources mentioned.”

Thybulle could be a solid pickup for the Lakers. While he missed most of last season, he shot a career high from three at 43.8%. He also had career highs in rebounds, assists, and steals. He only played in 15 games.

Still, Thybulle has been pretty healthy throughout his career. He’s played at least 65 games every season of his career except for last year. He is a proven three-and-D player on the wing.

Thybulle is one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. He also is a near 35% career three-point shooter despite having real offensive limitations.

So if the team is able to pull off a Lakers-Matisse Thybulle trade, it could be the perfect fit. Thybulle would be another defensive weapon for the Lakers. They desperately need one.

Right now, the projected Lakers starting lineup has three below-average defenders in Austin Reaves, Luka, and LeBron. While they may not have the pieces to pick up another starter with elite defense, Thybulle could easily play 15-20 minutes a game of top-level defense for them.
