NBA fans were treated to an exhilarating blockbuster matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night.
Luka Doncic, whom the Mavericks stunningly traded to the Lakers last February, always seems to play his best basketball against his former team.
That trend continued on Saturday, as the six-time All-Star finished with 33 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds in the Lakers’ 116-110 road victory over the Cooper Flagg-led Mavericks.
After the contest, the X/Twitter account ‘Real App’ revealed that Doncic made basketball history that has never been done before in the NBA.
“Luka averages 33.0 PPG against the Mavs,” Real App stated. “That’s the most PPG by a player against a former team in NBA history.”
It’s virtually a given that Doncic will pull out all the stops whenever he faces the team that nonsensically moved on him after 6.5 seasons. Although Nico Harrison, a former Mavericks general manager who played an integral role in the lopsided trade, is no longer a part of the organization, it’s reasonable to assume Doncic will wreak havoc against Dallas for years to come.
For the season, Doncic is averaging 33.4 points, 8.7 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.7% from the field and 33.4% from three-point land.
Expect the 26-year-old MVP candidate to build on his masterful performance against the Mavericks and continue to keep the Lakers in championship contention.
