Dalton Knecht’s tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers is all but over.

Although the franchise has yet to finalize a deal featuring Knecht, they are expected to honor the second-year guard’s recent trade request. According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, there’s a world where the Lakers send Knecht to the Cavaliers for a 6-foot-7 forward.

“As the Lakers continue to be linked to De’Andre Hunter, the Cavs have been in discussions with a couple of other teams regarding him,” Siegel reported Thursday.

“The (Brooklyn) Nets have come up as a third team to help facilitate money. Hunter is likely to be traded before Feb. 5.”

“There are some within the Cavs organization who like the idea of adding Dalton Knecht in a buy-low spot to get off Hunter’s contract, yet discussions have been ongoing.”

Hunter would have been a far more enticing three-and-D asset a season ago. Hunter, a former lottery pick, averaged 17.0 points per game on an impressive 47.0% field goal shooting and 40.5% three-point shooting with the Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks (he spent the first half of the year with the Hawks before getting traded to the Cavaliers at the midway point of the year).

While Hunter remains a strong defender, his perimeter shooting production has taken a hit this season. The 27-year-old is only connecting on 30.9% of his triples in 42 contests.

Still, it’s worth taking a look at Hunter before the upcoming trade deadline.
