The Los Angeles Lakers have the assets to complete a deal for another lethal weapon to pair with Luka Doncic and LeBron James, but have been hesitant to do so.

However, according to a recent report, the franchise could soon orchestrate a blockbuster trade for a former Golden State Warriors fan favorite and NBA champion.

“I wouldn't have classified him (Andrew Wiggins) as a potential purple-and-gold target before Doncic's long-term future was secured, but things are different now,” The Stein Line's Marc Stein wrote Monday.

“So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the (Miami) Heat, in coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll.”

Wiggins was precisely what the doctor ordered for the Dubs midway through the 2019-20 campaign.

Due to an early-season injury to Stephen Curry, the Warriors finished the year with 15 wins.

However, with the ex-Minnesota Timberwolves star occupying the small forward position moving forward, Golden State had every reason to be optimistic about the future.

As an eager 6-foot-7 high-flyer who wanted to prove his contributions could lead to high-level postseason success, Wiggins was a revelation for a Warriors franchise hoping to reach the promised land again.

Wiggins efficiently averaged 17.2 points per contest with the Warriors during the 2021-22 season, helping the franchise secure another title in the action-packed Curry era.

Could the 30-year-old have a similar impact with the Lakers next season? Perhaps, assuming he continues to showcase his reliability as a long-range shooter in the big leagues (he connected on 37.4% of his three-point jumpers last year).

Doncic and James could use as much as possible as they continue their partnership in Los Angeles, making a potential trade for Wiggins beneficial.
