The Los Angeles Lakers continued their impressive start to the 2025-26 NBA season on Tuesday night.

Led by Luka Doncic's 43-point, 13-assist double-double, the Lakers took down the city rival Clippers at Crypto.com Arena. The 135-118 victory in the NBA Cup improved the Lakers' record to 13-4, good for second in the Western Conference.

For second-year head coach JJ Redick, it is yet more validation of the Lakers' decision to hire him in 2024 -- a decision that was met with bemusement and harsh criticism from some quarters of the NBA.

In fact, the Lakers' win over the Clippers saw Redick extend a league record he already owned.

The Lakers are almost unbeatable if they are leading after three quarters

Entering Tuesday night's game, the Lakers held a 56-4 record under Redick when leading after three quarters.

That mark improved to 57-4 on Tuesday, as the Lakers -- ahead by five after three quarters -- pulled away in the fourth for a 17-point win.

The 93.4 winning percentage when ahead going into the fourth quarter is the highest that any NBA coach has ever accrued with a minimum of 60 games coached.

Redick, who played 15 years in the NBA, now owns a 63-36 record in two seasons as a head coach. He is demonstrating that he was quite the shrewd hire, despite the initial reservations around his background as an analyst and podcaster.
