Bombshell Anthony Davis trade report is terrible news for Luka Doncic, Lakers image

The idea of Anthony Davis reuniting with the Los Angeles Lakers is fun to envision.

While Davis is arguably the most injury-prone big man in the league, his dynamic two-way contributions alongside Luka Doncic in Los Angeles would force critics to take the Lakers seriously as contenders.

Unfortunately, though, a recent bombshell trade report centered around Davis is terrible news for Doncic and the Lakers.

Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis, another former NBA champion, is expected to be a critical trade target of several teams, including many of the East's contenders,” Charania reported Wednesday. “The Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors are expected to be suitors for Davis.”

Things were relatively normal for Davis around this time last year. Although the Lakers were playing below their standards, the Kentucky product was still viewed as Los Angeles’ franchise center and wasn’t involved in legitimate trade rumors.

However, the Lakers stunned the NBA on Feb. 2 by trading Davis to the Mavericks for Doncic. There was optimism that the Lakers could bring Davis back to Los Angeles this season after Dallas fired general manager Nico Harrison last month and was rumoured to blow up its roster.

With the Lakers not being listed among Davis’ potential suitors, though, it’s unlikely the 10-time All-Star will return to his second NBA home before the Feb. 5 deadline.

Considering Los Angeles could use another frontcourt stud, and Davis is one of the most high-profile big men on the trade market, Charania’s report is devastating, to say the least.
