The NBA continues to be full of surprises.
There always seems to be a curveball that no one expects, making it challenging to predict what’ll happen on a regular basis.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Clippers made a move that no one saw coming. The franchise shockingly cut ties with their 40-year-old future Hall of Fame point guard less than 30 games into the year.
“Breaking: Los Angeles Clippers are sending home future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul in a bizarre severing ties move,” NBA Insider Chris Haynes reported on X/Twitter.
Hayes then shared the Clippers’ official statement following the shocking move.
“We are parting ways with Chris, and he will no longer be with the team,” the organization stated. “We will work with him on the next step of his career. Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear.”
“No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise.”
Paul struggled mightily on a Clippers squad that’s lost five of their first 16 games.
Paul, who recently announced the 2025-26 campaign would be his last, averaged 2.9 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 32.1% from the field and 33.3% from three.
The Wake Forest product enjoyed a tremendous 20-year NBA career, but the Clippers' early-season roster move will likely force him to retire sooner than expected.
