Rockets trade proposal uses Alperen Sengun to get Giannis Antetokuonmpo in NBA blockbuster image

The Houston Rockets have a good thing going in the Western Conference.

Except there's one problem: How do they, or anyone else, beat the Oklahoma City Thunder?

Maybe the answer for the Rockets is to swing a blockbuster trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

ESPN laid out five possible destinations for a Giannis trade in a new article on Thursday, a day after he was reported to be discussing his future with the Bucks' front office.

One of those was Houston, and the proposal is intriguing:

  • Rockets get:
    • Giannis Antetokounmpo
    • Thanasis Antetokounmpo
  • Bucks get:
    • Alperen Sengun
    • Fred VanVleet
    • 2027 first-round pick (unprotected, via Suns)

Of all the trade suggestions, this one lands the best individual player for Milwaukee in the form of Sengun, an All-Star center.

"Partnering with Ryan Rollins in Milwaukee, Sengun would serve as the foremost building player for the next era of the Bucks, who they need given their lack of first-round picks in upcoming drafts," ESPN's Zach Kram writes. "Houston likely wouldn't want to offer many picks if they're including Sengun in a deal, but a future unprotected first-rounder from Phoenix is enticing even if the Suns are playing better basketball this season."

VanVleet is out for the rest of the season, and it's possible the Bucks would look to re-route him in a new trade.

For the Rockets, it'd be about acquiring one of the best players in basketball.

"For all of Sengun's many strengths, his efficiency is still only average, while Antetokounmpo is one of the most efficient, highest-usage scorers in NBA history," Kram writes. "He would fit perfectly in Houston's physical, paint-based offense while still supplying the same sort of frontcourt playmaking as Sengun."

It's certainly a scary thought to picture this Rockets team with Giannis out there, too.
