Rockets in line to sign Kevin Durant to a contact extension image

The Houston Rockets were dealt some unfortunate news this week after hearing the news on point guard Fred VanVleet. The former NBA champion is expected to miss an extended period of time after tearing his ACL in training camp.

It will be a crucial blow to the Rockets this season, and second-year guard Reed Sheppard will be expected to get a much-improved workload for Houston this season.

Another concern for Rockets fans is the future of newly acquired superstar Kevin Durant. He is under contract through the upcoming season, but whether he will get an extension has remained the key question.

Jake Fischer: Kevin Durant extension "will get done"

Kevin Durant, 36, was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in a record-setting deal back in June. His current expiring contract has him owed $54.7 million, but it appears that an extension will be getting done soon.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reported the news on Thursday, saying that an extension between Durant and his new team "will get done at some point in time."

It's unclear what the deal will look like, but it seems that the Rockets will be solidifying Kevin Durant's future with the franchise for years to come.

His addition to the team will be huge for the Rockets, who were unable to get past Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the NBA Playoffs last season. Although Houston was able to finish the regular season as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
