Kevin Durant doesn't find himself in many discussions of the NBA's greatest of all time.

But he just set a new NBA record after signing a contract extension with the Houston Rockets. He had to break LeBron James' record mark to do it.

Durant was eligible for a two-year, $120 million contract extension, and on Sunday, he signed a two-year deal for $90 million, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

KD has now earned more money from his contract salaries than any player in NBA history.

"Kevin Durant now holds the record for the highest career earnings in NBA history at $598.2 million based on current and future salaries, surpassing LeBron James ($583.9 million)," Charania wrote on X. "He has a total of three years and $144.7 million on his current contract."

Durant sought out a trade to the Rockets this offseason. He wanted to join a talented team and contend for more titles.

The Phoenix Suns granted that wish, and now Durant is just about ready for yet another season of getting buckets.

This will be his 18th NBA season, not counting the 2019-20 campaign that he missed entirely with injury.

Even last season, Durant shot 52.7% from the floor, 43.0% from 3 and 83.9% from the foul line.

The Rockets have more talent than the Suns, but if anything, that should allow Durant to maintain his legendary efficiency.

He's got a nice contract to go into the future with, and a hefty bank account already. Now, Durant can focus on leading the Rockets to glory.
