The Golden State Warriors have a 1-0 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Semifinals. However, the hamstring injury to Stephen Curry is a big problem for the foreseeable future.
Curry was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain after the MRI results came in, which means he will miss at least a couple of games, and maybe more.
Curry played in 70 of 82 regular-season games for the Warriors and led the team in points per game with 24.5, so there is no denying his absence will be a tough blow for Golden State.
What was the Warriors record this season without Curry?
Fans are wondering what the Warriors mark was without their best player, and rightfully so. However, it's not bad at all. In the 12 games Curry missed, Golden State went 7-5, per StatMuse. Here are all the 12 games the Warriors played, the result and the team's highest scorer in each game:
- October 29, 2024: Win over Pelicans, 124-106, Buddy Hield (28 points)
- October 30, 2024: Win over Pelicans, 104-89, Buddy Hield (21 points)
- November 2, 2024: Win over Rockets, 127-121, Buddy Hield (27 points)
- November 27, 2024: Loss to Thunder, 105-101, Jonathan Kuminga (19 points)
- December 5, 2024: Win over Rockets, 99-93, Jonathan Kuminga (33 points)
- December 27, 2024: Loss to Clippers, 102-92, Jonathan Kuminga (34 points)
- January 4, 2025: Win over Grizzlies, 121-113, Andrew Wiggins (24 points)
- January 10, 2025: Loss to Pacers, 108-96, Pat Spencer and Buddy Hield (17 points)
- January 28, 2025: Win over Jazz, 114-103, Dennis Schroder (23 points)
- March 18, 2025: Win over Bucks, 104-93, Jimmy Butler (24 points)
- March 22, 2025: Loss to Hawks, 125-115, Jimmy Butler (25 points)
- March 25, 2025: Loss to Heat, 112-86, Jonathan Kuminga (15 points)
Somehow the Warriors managed a winning record this year when Curry was unable to play. On the other hand, only four of those wins came against playoff teams, and the Warriors went 1-2 in games Curry missed since Butler came to town.
With Curry out, it will likely mean more minutes for Gary Payton II and possibly Pat Spencer or Moses Moody, although it remains to be seen what Steve Kerr decides to do.
