The Golden State Warriors are finally operating like a competent franchise after disappointing their fan base with their unproductive offseason.
In addition to agreeing to deals with Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and Alex Toohey, the Dubs signed a recently traded 6-foot-3 champion guard to support Stephen Curry.
“Golden State's No. 56 pick Will Richard is signing a four-year contract, with two years fully guaranteed as the Warriors invest long-term in the rookie,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Sunday.
Richard won a championship with the Florida Gators as a senior before entering the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Fairburn, Georgia native landed with the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round (No. 56 overall pick), but Memphis quickly traded him to the Warriors for the draft rights to Jahmai Mashack, Justinian Jessup, and a 2032 protected second-round pick.
Although Richard’s three-point shooting was nonexistent with the Warriors during Summer League (he only connected on 20.7% of his perimeter jumpers), his ability to use his physicality to have his way as a slasher and muck things up defensively was encouraging, to say the least.

Richard averaged 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game with the Dubs in the California Classic and NBA 2K26 Summer League.
It appears the Warriors are fully invested in the promising rookie guard, and based on his recent play, they have every reason to be.
