The Golden State Warriors recently picked up Al Horford after he remained in free agency for about three months.
This was the domino that set off two more commitments to the team, as they are likely signing De’Anthony Melton and will bring back Gary Payton II.
ESPN insider Shams Charania recently reported that, on top of that, the Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga have agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract that ended a summer-long negotiation.
Within this contract is a team option, meaning the first year is fully guaranteed at $23 million with the intention of the contract being re-worked next offseason.
Kuminga has declined multiple offers throughout this past summer and ultimately chose this deal over a three-year $75 million contract, which allows him to maintain a higher level of control over his future.
Charania also stated that both sides understand there will be a likelihood of exploring possible trades in January when Kuminga is eligible.

During his young four-year career with the Warriors, Kuminga has had an inconsistent role.
In 2021, he was the seventh overall pick out of the G League Ignite.
Since then, he has averaged 12.5 points per game in just 22 minutes per game.
Last playoffs, the frustration between Kuminga and the Warriors grew when he started one game, then received DNP’s the next.
The 6-foot-7 forward offers a dynamic role for any team as a point forward who can create shots for himself and his teammates
Despite being involved in one of the lengthiest standoffs in recent history, Kuminga returns to Golden State against all odds.
