As many have likely noticed, the Golden State Warriors’ roster has experienced changes as the franchise begins the pivotal preseason evaluation process.

A 25-year-old former record-setting college star is undoubtedly on Stephen Curry and the Dubs’ radar in early October, considering he signed a contract with the organization a day before training camp began.

“The Golden State Warriors free agent center Marques Bolden, along with guards LJ Cryer and Taevion Kinsey,” the Warriors announced last Monday. “Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.”

“Kinsey, 25, appeared in 34 games (23 starts) last season with the Salt Lake City of the NBA G-League, averaging 11.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 30.8 minutes per game. Overall, the 6-foot-5 guard owns G League averages of 12.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 32.8 minutes over 68 games (57 starts) over two seasons with the Stars.”

“Unselected in the 2023 Draft, Kinsey enjoyed a five-year collegiate career at Marshall University, where he became the school’s all-time leading scorer. He was named the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.”

Kinsey appeared in six Summer League games with the Sacramento Kings before eventually agreeing to a deal with the Dubs.

The Marshall legend poured in 4.5 points on 55.0% shooting from the field and 22.2% shooting from downtown, relying heavily on his above-the-rim athleticism to make a positive impact on the offensive end.

Kinsey received six minutes of action in the Warriors’ preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors but failed to log a point off the bench.

However, the 6-foot-5 guard did grab two rebounds and value the rock when the hardwood (he finished with zero turnovers).

Kinsey’s athletic ability will always help him receive attention, but developing a well-rounded game would do wonders for his young NBA career.
