The Golden State Warriors received a new Jonathan Kuminga contract update as training camp begins, and it wasn’t pleasant.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania detailed the unfortunate news regarding Kuminga’s status with the Dubs.
"The contract stalemate between restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors will bleed into the basketball portion of the NBA calendar.” Slater and Charania stated.
“Kuminga did not travel to San Francisco this weekend and won't be in attendance for Monday's media day. Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. made contact with Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, on Sunday, but there's no momentum toward a Kuminga contract or return before the team's first practice on Tuesday.”
“The Warriors have kept their three outstanding offers on the table, sources said. The two most lucrative -- two years, $45 million and three years, $75.2 million -- include team options on the final season, and the only offer without a team option is for three years and $54 million.”
The good news for the Warriors is that Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II have agreed to join Golden State for the 2025-26 season.

The bad news is that the organization can’t officially sign those free agents until Kuminga makes a pivotal contract decision of his own.
The former lottery pick is undoubtedly betting on himself after ending the 2024-25 campaign with momentum (he poured in 20.8 points per game on 54.3% shooting from the field and 42.% from three-point land against the Minnesota Timberwolves in round No. 2 of the postseason).
However, Kuminga was an inconsistent and non-floor spacing contributor in the Bay for a good portion of the year, leaving Steve Kerr no choice but to remove him from the rotation late in the regular season.
Hopefully, Kuminga re-signs with the Dubs later this week and accepts whatever role Kerr chooses to assign to him.
