The Golden State Warriors would be a thrilling landing spot in a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo if the Milwaukee Bucks actually decide to deal their superstar.
The question would shift, then, to whether the Warriors have enough assets to land Antetokounmpo in a trade.
Well, thanks to an insider report, we now know one player they'd trade: Draymond Green.
That's what Jake Fischer reported on Thursday:
“The only player I think in the league that Golden State would be willing to move Draymond Green for would be Giannis Antetokounmpo. That’s the only player. Between him and Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, all of a sudden Golden State probably does have an intriguing package if you're Milwaukee. But I don't think that they are going to be pushing Draymond's salary onto the table — or Jimmy Butler’s salary — for anyone short of him.”
We're not here to discuss whether that's a good enough package for Giannis.
We're here to laugh.
Oh yeah, the Warriors would really trade a past-his-prime Draymond to acquire Giannis?
No kidding.
Someone involved with the Warriors' organization or a connected agency had to leak that information to Fischer. They had to tell him, "Yeah, we wouldn't trade Draymond for 99% of the league, but Giannis, that's where we'd cave."
Sure, Green is a Golden State legend. But there are unequivocally more players in the league that he'd be worth trading for, too.
It's just funny to picture how this report came together. The whole news is that Draymond is available in an Antetokounmpo deal? Thanks for that, Captain Obvious (meaning the leak, not Fischer).
The Bucks would surely want to start a rebuild by acquiring an older forward who's great at doing the little things really well.
This one is just a little silly all around.
