Although LeBron James likely isn’t the Golden State Warriors’ No. 1 trade target, there’s a reason why he continues to be linked to the seven-time NBA champions.
James and Stephen Curry may be arch rivals, but the mutual respect has always been there. With Curry and the Warriors possessing a flawed roster, why not consider bringing James on board midseason and potentially turning their season around?
On Thursday, the Dubs received a major trade update regarding the four-time NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers forward.
“Why don’t we just play duck-duck-goose?” James’ agent Rich Paul said on his ‘Game Over’ podcast with Max Kellerman. “I don’t like to get into that. It’s (a trade to the Warriors) not gonna happen, so why are we talking about things that aren’t gonna happen?”
“You and Bill (Simmons) can play fantasy basketball all you want. You can do that about anyone in the league. I believe any time you’re placing LeBron James on any team in the league, it makes basketball sense. I think Jimmy Butler plays basketball the right way to where Jimmy Butler fits any team. Right now, I like him on the Golden State Warriors.”
For clarity, Kellerman suggested that the Warriors could trade Butler to the Lakers for James in a blockbuster deal, but Paul made it clear that it isn’t a legitimate possibility at this time.
Due to James’ no-trade clause, it wouldn’t be easy for the Lakers to complete any deal centered around the 21-time All-Star. With the Warriors having plenty of targets to pivot to after Paul’s revealing comments, missing out on James isn’t the end of the world.
