Giannis Antetokounmpo opened the door for a blockbuster midseason trade to the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 3.

With the 31-year-old superstar reportedly mulling his future with the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Golden State Warriors needing another high-level talent to catapult them into championship contention, it appeared that a massive deal could eventually occur.

However, a recent trade update surrounding Antetokounmpo is disappointing news for the Dubs.

“The teams that have the most to offer — chief among them Oklahoma City, San Antonio, and Houston — don’t appear eager to make that sort of monumental move at the moment,” The Athletic’s Sam Amick wrote Sunday.

“The franchises that have reasons to be more motivated — from Miami (Heat) to Minnesota (Timberwolves), Golden State, Atlanta (Hawks) and Toronto (Raptors) — all bring complications when it comes to satisfying the Bucks’ lofty desires in a potential deal.”

On Dec. 4, the Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported that the Dubs could include Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga, and Draymond Green in a trade for Antetokounmpo.

However, based on Amick’s report, it isn’t a given that those assets, along with draft capital, would be enticing enough to convince the Bucks to relinquish Antetokounmpo to the Dubs this season.

On the bright side, though, Amick didn’t state that the Warriors are out of the running for the NBA champion forward, which should keep hope alive in the Bay.

Time will tell if Golden State partners with Milwaukee before the trade deadline.
