The Golden State Warriors and other rumored Anthony Davis suitors are in a weird spot.

Amid news that he will undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand, Davis' regular season with the Dallas Mavericks appears to be over.

But as ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday, Davis' return timeline could have the 10-time All-Star and 2020 NBA champion on course to play in the playoffs if the lottery-bound Mavericks trade him before the league's Feb. 5 deadline.

Three of Davis' four reported suitors -- the Warriors, the Atlanta Hawks and the Toronto Raptors -- would qualify at least for the Play-in Tournament if the regular season ended today.

A fourth, the Milwaukee Bucks, is 1.5 games out of the #10 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Charania says Davis would be keen to "establish himself for the long-term elsewhere" if he is dealt to a contender and is able to play in the postseason.

The 32-year-old future Hall of Fame inductee is under contract through next year, with a player option for the 2027/28 season. In 20 games this season, he's averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.

But Davis himself has disputed Charania and other media reports about his future.

Shortly after Charania broke the news of the Mavericks' ongoing trade talks, Davis told his two million followers on X to "stop listening to all these lies on these apps" -- adding yet another new wrinkle to this intriguing trade drama.
