The main topic of the offseason for the Golden State Warriors has been the messy contract talks with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

Although it seems nothing less than Kuminga wanting out of Golden State in hopes of a better opportunity with a new team, he's looking for specific incentives in his newest contract. This does not look to be going as planned.

There has been a list of different options that the Warriors have given Kuminga, while Golden State still has leeway on the 22-year-old forward with the CBA's (Collective Bargaining Agreement) rules on restricted free agents.

Warriors rejected offer from Kings involving Kuminga, Malik Monk

The Golden State Warriors are still committed to the idea of resigning Jonathan Kuminga to a short-term deal, as they don't want to give up the former lottery pick for less in return.

Their ornery ways have left some interesting trade packages from multiple teams throughout the league, including a deal offered by the Sacramento Kings.

According to ESPN's Anthony Slater and Shams Charania, the Warriors declined a deal that had Jonathan Kuminga getting sent to the Kings in exchange for 2023-24 Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk and a future first-round pick.

Golden State was likely unsatisfied with the three years remaining on Monk's four-year, $77.97 million contract he signed in the 2024 offseason.

In addition, 22-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga, who averaged more than 15 points per game last season, appears to offer greater long-term value than 27-year-old Malik Monk. While Monk continues to improve statistically in each year, he's already tied to a sizable contract.

It's unclear what will take place for Kuminga in Golden State, but it seems that the Warriors aren't budging and will get him signed to a short-term deal before the 2025-26 season starts next month.
