The Golden State Warriors have made perhaps their biggest signing of the offseason, as Al Horford has agreed to a multi-year contract with the team, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
After spending the last four seasons with the Boston Celtics — his second stint with the team — Horford now agrees to become Golden State’s starting center for next season. Horford is seen as a good fit for the Warriors thanks to his ability to space the floor while also being an interior force. In his career, Horford is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range.
Horford is still an impactful player even at 39 years of age. Last season, he averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists, appearing in 60 games for the Celtics (42 starts).
Horford has been the Warriors top target for the majority of the offseason. They’ve also been marred in a long contract dispute with Jonathan Kuminga, which could come to a resolution sooner rather than later. According to Sharania, Horford was one of the free agents waiting for a decision on Kuminga, but it seems as though his patience has run thin, and he’s opted to sign with the Warriors anyways.
Golden State enters next season as possible title contenders in the Western Conference. The Warriors are trying to do all that they can to secure another title while Stephen Curry is still a premier player in the NBA.
