Stephen Curry breaks silence on Jonathan Kuminga’s contract drama image

With the deadline to accept his qualifying offer fast approaching, the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga are still in talks on a new contract.

The Warriors and Kuminga remain at a standstill following the club’s latest offer. Golden State originally offered the promising young forward a two-year, $45 million deal that included a team option for Year 2. However, the Warriors have since increased their offer, which now reportedly sits at $75.2 million over three years, including a third-year team option, according to Anthony Slater and Shams Charania of ESPN

Reports have suggested that the 22-year-old isn’t interested in a deal with a team option. Now, he’s set to miss the Warriors’ media day on Monday, with the deadline to accept his $7.9 million qualifying offer scheduled for Wednesday.

Stephen Curry expects Kuminga to be 'locked in'

Superstar point guard Stephen Curry recently commented on Kuminga’s standstill. While he said he respects Kuminga’s process, he expects him to be ready to go after his dramatic offseason, according to Slater.

“When he’s here and ready to work, we expect him to be locked in,” Curry said

Kuminga’s playing time and efficiency took a slight hit in the 2024-25 campaign, and he missed over two months due to a sprained right ankle. Over 47 regular-season appearances, he averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor in 24.3 minutes per game.

Kuminga saw limited action in the club’s first-round series win over the Houston Rockets, but he was an impact player with Curry sidelined in the final four games of the postseason. During the last four games of the team's Western Conference semifinals loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, he averaged 24.3 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 55.4 percent from the field in 31.0 minutes per game.

A resolution is expected in the coming days, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Kuminga accept his qualifying offer and bet on himself before becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer.
