Jonathan Kuminga is nearly trade-eligible.
In two weeks (Jan. 15), the 6-foot-7 Golden State Warriors NBA champion will officially be on the trade block.
Barring an unexpected resurgence from Kuminga in a Warriors uniform, it’s safe to say he’ll be shipped to a new franchise before the Feb. 5 deadline.
The Athletic’s Sam Amick recently reported that the Sacramento Kings are interested in acquiring Kuminga from the Dubs this season.
“The messaging has been pretty consistent, which is, yes, they do still have interest,” The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported Tuesday.
It goes without saying that for a Kuminga-Kings trade to come to fruition, the Warriors must feel satisfied with their return. Swapping Kuminga for Domantas Sabonis would be ideal, based on the fact that the franchise doesn’t possess a dominant low-post threat who can help ease Stephen Curry’s workload.
However, regarding a realistic deal, the Kings would likely send either Keon Ellis or Malik Monk to the Warriors for Kuminga, which likely wouldn’t thrill Golden State.
Still, it’s good news for the Warriors that the Kings are open to taking Kuminga off their hands this season.
The disgruntled forward has bumped heads with the Dubs one too many times in the Bay, making a split beneficial for both parties.
Kuminga, who’s averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and 32.0% from three, should expect to be on the move in the foreseeable future.
