Kevin Durant has always been an NBA phenomenon, but he reached a new level of stardom after signing with the Golden State Warriors in 2016.

Durant’s decision to team up with Stephen Curry in the Bay came after the Warriors overcame a 3-1 Western Conference Finals deficit against the Oklahoma City Thunder and advanced to the final round of the playoffs.

While Durant won two titles with the Warriors, his tenure with the organization ended in 2019.

The Warriors attempted to reunite with Durant during the 2024-25 season and the start of the offseason, but were unsuccessful (the Phoenix Suns traded Durant to the Houston Rockets on Sunday).

On Tuesday, the Ringer's Logan Murdock went into detail about Durant’s departure from Golden State.

“Durant’s exit from the Bay Area arguably had more to do with his issues with Steve Kerr than any shouting match with (Draymond) Green," Murdock reported.

"Durant repeatedly complained both publicly and privately about Kerr’s offensive principles during his final season with the Warriors, and he continued to do so even after he left for Brooklyn (Nets).”

“The two have since reconciled, but league sources identify Kerr as among the reasons Durant opted not to return to Golden State at the trade deadline."

Durant, who doesn’t hold back on social media, responded to the shocking report on X/Twitter.

“We still on this,” Durant wrote. “Obvious opportunity for Logan Murdock to gain even more attention and try too revive his career by using my name and the Warriors. The audience is SICK AND TIRED of the same (expletive) narrative. Be better my man.”

Based on the 15-time All-Star’s recent statement, it’s clear that Durant and Kerr aren’t on bad terms.

Perhaps Durant wanted a change of scenery after three long seasons with the franchise.

Now that the two-time NBA Finals MVP has effectively shut down rumors regarding his relationship with Kerr, he can focus on preparing for his first season with the Rockets in 2025-26.
